This presentation looks at why one should use field programmable (FP) logic in SOCs (because of the lifetime of a SoC, application flexibilty and the loq quantities for pilot applications). The speaker then looks at the issues involved (area, technology cost and field programming), their value (FP SoCs are unlikely to prevent re-spins, and the cost of re-doing the masks could be saved), and alternatives (metal mask programmable, and logic synthesis).
